We are pleased to announce that we will again be supporting The Freedom Centre for AWAKENED 2019.
The ‘Freedom’ Centre is our Chosen charity for AWAKENED.. and we will continue to support them for this years event. They do an amazing job and have a outdoor pitch with a collection point, also to chat to people about what they do and also offering healing.
Freedom Community Alliance (known locally as Freedom) is a charity based in North Devon supporting vulnerable adults suffering from the causes, and effects, of social exclusion, deprivation and disadvantage. They may be suffering from poverty, poor mental health, substance mis-use, be homeless or vulnerably housed, have an offending background or have hidden disabilities. We provide support through a range of projects that address an individual’s needs, to overcome isolation and exclusion and promote inclusion and integration.
The values of Freedom Community Alliance
- Wholeness comes as a result of physical, emotional, relational and spiritual healing
- Individuals have the right to make their own choices
- Individuals have the right to be treated with dignity and respect
- Individuals should be empowered to reach their potential
- Individuals should be given the opportunity to change
- Individuals have the right to receive quality support and care
Our ‘Freedom Drop-in’ is an open access day centre based at the Freedom Centre in Barnstaple. We provide hot meals, food parcels, showers, clothing, recreation and a wide range of support services. The aim is to help people to address their current circumstances and to give them hope for a more positive future. All of these services are free of charge.
Our ‘Therapeutic Community’ on Exmoor is a rehabilitation centre for men addressing the behaviours associated with substance mis-use through a 6-9 months intensive recovery programme. A further 6 months in our supported accommodation (Freedom Housing) in Barnstaple for re-settlement support is recommended.
‘Freedom Housing’ has 40 bed spaces for people who are either homeless or in unsuitable accommodation and in need of support and also the graduates from the Therapeutic Community. The need for quality housing in North Devon for this vulnerable group of people is increasing. Our aim is to continue expanding Freedom Housing to help with this demand and we are currently preparing an additional 8 bed spaces.
To help fund these vital services we are increasing our community fundraising which includes a monthly giving scheme, an ebay shop and regular Nearly New Sales. We have also started Freedom Social Enterprises to both grow a stream of income and provide work experience and jobs for the long term unemployed. We are hoping that this will reduce our reliance on short term grant funding and secure the above services which are needed for vulnerable and disadvantaged people in North Devon.
There is always a collection point at their stand for toiletries and foods that will help them to provide meals and services to vulnerable people that will benefit ~ we will continue to update their essential requirement list of what is most needed.
If you feel you would like to help in some way, maybe you have some collections to donate or collect, or maybe you have a few hours free that you could volunteer in the centre in Barnstaple ~ Please feel free to contact them directly.
